My Mom Away From Home

As I watch you slumber and slave
In the kitchen
I have visions of my
Own mother at work
With hands of faith
And consistency
She carried on the fight
To provide for the family
I would come home
And dinner would be ready
And her voice
Because the sound of love
I have been waiting to feel
When I returned home
From the world’s cares

As I watch you leave
To go to work
I have visions of my own mother
Going to her job
She cleaned house
Cooked breakfast
And make sure everything
Was situated
Before the beginning of her day
Then she is off to work
Working diligently
And faithfully
To the best of her ability
She made everyday count
As a blessing unto the Lord
She knew how to keep on going
Even when she didn’t want to

As I watch you work
Around the house
I have visions
Of my own mother cleaning
Just because the day
Is done at work
Doesn’t mean the day is over with
She cleaned the house

Washed the clothes
Cooked and tended to the kids
Just like an ordinary mother does
Then when I came home
Everything was clean
The food smelled wonderful
And I was being loved
She knew how to make
Everything bright
Even when the Word
Brought me down daily
I have someone to love me
To come home to
Yes, I’m truly blessed of the Lord

Why am I comparing you to my own mother?
Because when I’m not there
With my mother
You are that mother

So on this glorious New Year
Take a break
Take a chill pill
(As we young people like to say)
Enjoy you time of
(Even though it’s short)
For this is a sign that soon
You will enter into a season of rest
Now that you worked hard
Let someone else work hard for you

Thanks for everything!
I love you very much!
