tumor is a swelling or new growth.
Tumors, which are mistakenly thought to be only malignant, include a wide variety of growths, both benign (friendly) and malignant (unfriendly), that can affect any organ of the body.
Benign tumors of the skin include warts, moles, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, and molluscum growths. Common malignant skin tumors include the carcinomas (cancers) and the malignant melanoma.
Almost everyone will develop a skin tumor in his or her lifetime, but since the great majority of skin tumors are benign and are of little consequence, people rarely bring these to the attention of the physician.
