HAIR LOSS & EXCESS HAIR

certain amount of hair loss is an inevitable part of the aging process in most everybody. Since it is asymptomatic, leaves no visible scarring, and results in no physiologic functions of the individual, it is really not a disease. Shall we call it a disorder? Or is it, the words of James Joyce, “the ineluctable modality of the visible”? Hair loss happens!

Some studies have suggested that varying degrees of hair loss – too much hair in unwanted areas; loss or thinning of scalp hair – are associated with negative effects on the overall quality of life in some people.

In the following chapters we will touch on some of the problems of hair loss and excess hair in both women and men.
