Its a little part of England Not two hours drive away It does not have the draw of Spain With sunshine every day And certainly it has not got The London night life oh so grand Nor has it got theatres As you find in the strand Its charm you see is not man made And moulded in cement The lakes and hills you find up there Are not for sale or rent Oh no, they are free to anyone Who has two eyes to see The magic and tranquillity For all and sundry It does not matter if you climb The steep side of Skiddaw Or take all day to ramble Round Derwentwaters shore You will still feel so elated By time the day is through That tired though your limbs may be You are certainly not blue And yes, it has its share of rain But thats just what it takes To make the valleys grasses green And top up all the lakes Let all who wish depart this land By sea or aeroplane I will sit among the Lakeland hills And gaze across this fine terrain. |
