Have you ever turned up at dance night? It’s supposed to be fancy dress You go in carpet slippers Looking a positive mess You have made a concerted effort Intend to be silliest there Spent over three hours this morning Deciding just what to wear It’s supposed to resemble a shipwreck Sometime between seven and four Perhaps you will dress as the captain Or someone from on the dance floor You are a little late in arriving So everyone else is inside You make such a fabulous entrance Dressed as one from the S.S.Kilbride But oh! What a shock as you enter To find everyone dressed to the nines The gentlemen all in evening suits The ladies in latest designs If ever you wanted the floorboards To open, it ought to be now I think we should make our excuses Get out of the building somehow “The cabaret’s arrived” someone shouted For their outfits lets have three big cheers I think they are brave to dress silly We haven’t laughed so for years. |
