To some its just a garden pool Dug deeply in the ground Topped up with so much water Even a fish would drown But to my wife it is a bird bath All be it rather large For all the birds to bathe in And free of any charge It is not like me to criticise You know me far too well For crows and herons its okay But to small birds it is hell They try to balance on the edge But most of them fall in And then its panic stations As to the side they swim She coaxes them with lumps of bread They use it as a raft Dare not even eat it They would drown, they are not that daft It stands there with life belts Fixed around the rim Dont think the Wren is keen on it But thats just tough on him Dont take this ode too much to heart I know you are being kind And once the birds get used to it I am sure that they wont mind |
