It is us who’s supposed to be clever Us who’s supposed to be bright Why then do we rise in the darkness? Whilst animals sleep till its light The minute that darkness has fallen Birds go to sleep in the tree But we sit there drinking black coffee To keep us awake until three No matter that we may be tired Falling asleep in the chair It is only just ten to eleven Much too early for bed, so there! You all know what happens next morning We are cosy and warm in our bed The alarm clock starts screeching and wailing When we want to turn over instead Yes, it is us who’s supposed to be clever Us who’s supposed to be bright If that is the case then dear humans I am off to my bed so, goodnight!
