Children – Don't You Just Love Them

“Children should be seen, not heard,”
Goes the Victorian credo.
And how many times
Have we all wished for that.

“Teenagers are an alien race,”
Goes the anguished cry.
And a million mums
Would agree with that.

The idea that a child
Is a perfect being
A happy smile,
And a rosy glow –

Then the child is born
And the dream is shattered
By the broken nights
And the sleep-starved days.

This is not a doll
Or a fashion accessory.
It’s a human being
In an unfinished state.

Being a Mum or a Dad
Is a life investment.
If you want some love
Then you've got to care.

Listen to your kids
And you’ll grow together
On your journey through life
Look through children’s eyes.
