Chapter 15

Mick

Mick felt guilty for having cheated on his wife. Not with another woman, but with his job. He took his job with the NYPD very seriously. And when he became a detective he took it even more seriously. What’s more, he took it very seriously all the time, even when he was off duty. He loved his now ex-wife very much. But his job dominated his life. His ex-wife lived with it for a while. But eventually she had to leave him. Because she knew she wanted more from a husband. And she felt she deserved more. She didn’t even bother giving him a work or her type of ultimatum. Because she knew the true answer would always be work. Mick knew she deserved better. Although it broke his heart, he let her go without any animosity. They have a son. Mick loves him very much. But he also acknowledged that the job prevented him from being the father his son deserved.

As it affected his home-life more, Mick took the work more and more seriously. Almost as if he was trying to justify the importance of the thing that had destroyed his marriage, Mick was a very good policeman. And was one for all the right reasons. He wanted to help innocent people and make sure wrongdoers were punished. He was born to be a policeman. And he knew he would die knowing that being a policeman was all he ever truly was in his life.
