Chapter 11

Lori

Chapter 11

Lori

Lori had worked in the same small Library on the edge of New York since leaving High School some eight years ago. He would have loved to go to College but family circumstances dictated that she couldn’t. She never knew her father. He left her mother when she was pregnant. She was very lovingly raised as an only child with only one parent. Mother fell ill just as Lori was starting her final year of high school. She needed full medical care and there was no way Lori could afford the healthcare and her own College fees. Given the choice, Lori made up her mind in an instant that she would sacrifice her College ambitions. She really wanted to go to college to study psychology or maybe some natural science type of subject. Whatever she would have ended up studying she would have really enjoyed it and worked so hard she would have been guaranteed success. Yet she never regretted for a second her decision. In a way working in a library was like going to college, in that it helped satisfy thirst for knowledge, only no diploma. She visited her mother in hospital every weekend, even though her mother rarely recognized her. Lori had a quiet life. She was a quiet person, maybe not perfectly happy but content. Impossible not to like, very inoffensive, yet somebody had clearly taken a great dislike to her.
