CHAPTER 66
Mtskheta, Georgia

Monday early morning

Vano and Zurab woke up from their nap and realized that they had overslept.

“Holy Christ, it’s nearly sunrise, Vano said, “Come on, let’s get the hell out of here.”

The too men wasted no time as they pushed the tiles out of the way and crawled up into the main floor of the church. They then put the tiles back in place and quickly swept the area with a broom and dustpan and started walking toward the side entrance by the altar.

“What if someone caught us now,” Vano asked, “What would you tell them?”

“I’d tell them that we fell asleep while digging under the church for the hidden Cloak of Christ, what the hell do you think I’d say?”

“I’m serious, I want to know what you would say to the Bishop if he was standing right outside this door?”

“I’d say that you and I came in early to do some gardening on the side of the church. I’d say that I found some mole holes that I’m sure would displease His Excellency.”

“That’s not bad at all, but you couldn’t think of anything better to say?”

“Screw you,” Vano said, “I’m tired and I’m hungry, and I have to come back and scrub this floor in two hours, and you want me to be racking my brain for excuses when we haven’t even been caught yet, you go to hell.”
