CHAPTER 60
Istanbul, Turkey

Sunday late night

After a long exhausting day of meetings, U.S. Ambassador Roger Ganley was sitting on the sofa in his room talking on the telephone with John Evans, who was in his office at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia.

“Sir, I just got a call from the CIA, and you’ll be happy to hear that they’ve finished their mission in Azerbaijan and are now on their way back to Tbilisi.”

“Wonderful, I don’t suppose there’s any chance that they told you what the hell they were up to.”

“I think you already know that answer, the only thing I do know is that the results must have been positive, because I heard a lot of happy people in the background.”

“Did they say how long they plan to stay in Tbilisi?” Ganley asked.

“I did ask that, and you’ll also be happy to know that they plan on flying out of here a few hours after they get back.”

“Good riddance, life is tough enough around here without them coming in and stirring up trouble.”

“Oh, by the way, your father was back out to the cathedral this afternoon.”

“You know, I was thinking about that today, that’s where he met my mother, and that’s where they got married. Even after eight years, he really misses her, and I guess he’s reliving all the old memories.”

“As long as he’s happy, we’ll just keep an eye on him. I don’t think he has any idea that we have the Marine guards watching him,” Evans said.

Ganley laughed and said, “Believe me, you and I would have heard about it by now if he did, you know how he likes his privacy.”

“You’re right, what time should we expect you back tomorrow?”

“Our flight will be getting in about 10:00 A.M., we’ll see you then.”

“Good night, sir.”
