PROLOGUE

Thus, the minions of Evil routed, the final arrow loosed fell onto the empty field.
The sorcerers were perished and the last of the Huri slain, to rise no more.
Darkness banished. Light restored.
The war at last was ended.
In its' passing there was a time of great revelling and celebration.
Leaders of all Races swore an oath;
"Truce and Peace between us for all time."
And so the world was told they returned home to their loved ones.
Elfin, Dwarves, Soyex, Fellis and Man.
Draconians too did return from whence they came.
And so the end was passed from mouth to mouth.
So they were told and so they believed.

Alas! Sweet trust. How easily is your innocence misled.
And weary children. Tired and homesick.
Doubt has no place in victory or in the tempting lies of promised reunion.
"Evil is vanquished," they cried and closed their ears to caution.
But Evil is not so easily undone.
Its' spore is hardy. Determined Cunning.
It lurks in the dark recesses of secret desires,
in the hidden corners of the heart.
Quiet and forgotten even by the one in whose breast that heart does beat.
There it bides its' time with unqualified patience.
There it puts out its' first, fibrous roots and then rests;
Lying dormant until that moment of weakness to provide the nourishment of growth.

And conquest.
Thus did it dwell.
In most unsuspected of abodes.
Who could have known?
That in Elfin heart, unnoticed it had made its' home.
In that unwitting soil. Infected. Infested. It fed and bred until host and parasite were one.
Lost forever in darkness.
Lost in greed and lust for power and fulfilment of coveted desires.
Lost was Duman.
Elven Elite. Warrior Unparalleled.
Hero of Phelise. Hero of all Races.
Born was Duman the Malefactor.
Accursed. Traitor. Betrayer.

Yes. The time of the Huri Wars were ended
And you, reader, will look now to see the closing of this Chronicle
and wonder why so many pages still wait unread.
Because Men live and Men die;
But Light and Darkness have no allegiance to Time.
So read on:
Hear my words. Listen and take heed.
For those who fought side by side with Dragons, the War is over.
But verily; for their children and their childrens' children,
the battle is just beginning...
