THE ZAMBIAN SITUATION

All right lets assume for a second that the reason most African countries are poor is because, the are undemocratic, the don’t follow Christian values, their elections are not free and fare. English isn’t their official language, their people are unfriendly and they have a one party state and don’t privatize their industries. If this was the case then Zambia would have been the richest country in Africa and probably a first world country but no, Zambia is poor and considered a third world country and yet it does the exact opposites of all that. It’s democratic, it’s a Christian nation, it’s elections are monitored by the USA government and European union and considered free and fare. English is the official language, it’s people are very friendly. It’s got a multi party system and most of its companies are privatized and on top of that it has large copper deposits, unexploited oil reserves, emeralds and many different kinds of minerals. But yet it’s still poor. How strange! One would expect it to be rich. Especially that fact that its never been to war with anyone and there has never been a successful military coup there.

The reason why Zambia is still poor is because America doesn’t want it to be. America can’t afford having a rich African country to watch over, especially one it has no military treaty with.

Zambia like most other democratic African states have always assumed that once it becomes democratic, America will pump in lots of money. But America doesn’t need to, especially with the cold war over and it being the only superpower.

Zambia like all African countries must learn to stand on their own and support each other instead of really on the Western country’s aid.

Zambia has a lot of copper but instead of exploiting them it bought into American propaganda that it should privatize the mining industry and that copper is now useless. The government was then forced to sell the copper mines at very cheap prices. Actually with the prices so cheap, they should have sold the copper mines to the local people or other African mining companies. The foreign companies that bought the copper mines due to Americas increased pressure on Zambia to sell them don’t even care about Zambia. If they did, they would have found better use of copper and created a demand. Even at this stage copper does make money, but nobody is buying it from Zambia because BHP Billiton doesn’t have any mines there. BHP Billiton makes most of its sales from the sale of copper. In the last financial year, it made profit of up to $4.8 billion, with most of it coming from the sale of copper. Imagine what $4.8 billion would buy in Zambia. The Zambian government should have a stake in that and it won’t need to rely on foreign aid.

Western countries take away all the big business from Africa. They keep all the major trade to themselves. There is currently an unfair trade system in the world, which is making the poor nations to suffer.

With the addition of powerful satellite systems and gadgets, countries like America can zero in on any major trade to be embarked by an African country with an overseas company and jeopardize the process.

A lot of incidents have happened in which major overseas companies decide to invest heavily in Zambia and even set up equipment there, only to leave after a few days without any explanation. It’s because the have been threatened by America and told to leave.

America doesn’t get to be that big and powerful by being honest and playing it fair.

Rich countries will always step over the small ones. The only way that small countries can compete with rich countries is by combining their resources and working together.

For Zambia to be successful it needs to establish large manufacturing industries which will provide plenty of employment and it can be able to export a lot of goods which will provide the country with income. And should not expect other countries to build these facilities. There is enough manpower and brain power to make the country successful. If Zambia is going to borrow money it should be for manufacturing industry or fee paying facilities.

Zambia should minimize, importing and increase exporting. Minimize buying finished goods and instead assemble or manufacture them.

If African countries can build better universities, all the money spent by those African students abroad would be better used in Africa.

If African countries built better tourist resorts and facilities, all the money spent going overseas would be better spent in Africa developing Africa.

If Africans spent more time watching African movies than foreign movies, African movie industry would grow.

If African radio stations played more African music than foreign music, African music industry would grow.

Small changes like these can change Africa for the best and improve its economy and the standard of living of Africans.

Africans spend more time, buying and promoting overseas goods than their own.

If you won’t buy your products, no one else will, and the local economy will suffer while you keep making the other countries richer and become more dependent on them.

There is nothing wrong with buying foreign goods, but only if they buy your goods too. Because if you keep buying and they selling, the one who sell will always be better off than the ones who buy. What needs to be done is for the two countries to trade. And make sure that you exporting more than you importing.

Good economy = Export — Import, with Export always greater than Import.
