HOW AFRICA CAN COUNTER THESE PROBLEMS

1. Trade Block

African countries should stop relying on America and its allies for trade or aid. African countries should learn to trade with each other first. Most of the stuff Africa needs is in Africa. It just needs good road networks, better rail system across Africa and a lot of manufacturing and assembling industries and free trade agreements between African countries. African countries need to support each other and each other’s industries and not be jealous of any African countries’ success. No finished or at least very little finished goods should be brought in from outside Africa.

Africa should buy raw materials and manufacture or at least assemble foreign goods themselves. This will make foreign products in Africa much cheaper and by assembling or manufacturing goods in Africa you create more employment other than when you buy finished products.

Things like cars should never be bought outside Africa. It’s much better to buy the parts and assemble the cars in Africa or manufacture the cars themselves.

Even if it’s much cheaper to buy a car overseas, it is much better to buy it from a neighboring African country for the future success of the continent. As long as more overseas goods are brought into Africa, local goods will be expensive because the local industries are not as established as the Western Industries and so local Africans need to support their local industries for them to grow and be better established and able to compete with the West. African governments need to put in regulations preventing overseas companies dumping their cheap goods in Africa and limiting the local industries profit and growth.

Africa is still a newly established and still developing continent. It needs to be given time to grow. But as long as Africa’s un-established industries are made to compete with the West, Africa won’t grow and the West will become richer.

The local goods might be more expensive now in Africa due to production costs but with tremendous local support, it will become cheaper and Africa’s industries and economy will grow, and the new generation of Africans won’t have to live in poverty.

This generation might suffer but if the work hard and stick with their local produce even if the products are not yet as good as the Western ones. Support should be in local movie production, local music production, local goods production, local cars production, and many more, then their kids and their grandchildren, will not suffer as much as them and they will live a much more prosperous life and Africa will be as it should, the most beautiful continent in the world.

Even Western countries went through a period of poverty, disease outbreaks, high unemployment, food shortages, bad transport system, bad governance but the managed to break through it and now generations later, the Western World is successful and people have better health care and living standards.

Africa should not be rushed to compete with the West. It’s still a newly independent continent and still developing.

Africa should not even worry about competing with the rest of the world in sporting tournaments and events.

Money spent on sending players and officials to the Olympics were most African countries perform badly because they are not yet ready to compete with the rest of the world who have better facilities, large financial support, better training programs, better coaching routines and most of all experience.

The money used sending African players and officials to the Olympics, FIFA world cup and any other major tournament should be used to develop local sport, better coaching facilities, better stadiums, better sporting programs and schools where kids can be sent, properly coached and prepared to compete with the rest of the world.

You can’t expect players that are poorly paid, struggling to make ends meet, don’t have a proper diet, don’t train in proper training facilities and travel to sporting venues in uncomfortable conditions, be able to give their best and play better than players who have these things.

All that these world cups, Olympics and other world tournaments like the Commonwealth Games do is to discourage young Africans from playing better because their countries never win the major events and don’t even come second or third or later won’t be in the semi finals. It’s not that Africans can’t do better than the rest of the world; they just don’t have the facilities and support as their counterparts.

All this money put in trying to win tournaments that they can’t win yet should be put in trying to develop the sports locally and also the local industries.

The money that the last African teams used to go to the FIFA world cup, Olympics and Commonwealth games should have been used to develop an industry in Africa that would produce mass goods and make lots of profit, by increasing the standard of living for people, finding commercial sponsors for the African teams, Giving the government much needed revenue which can be used to develop the sport and eventually being able to compete with the rest of the world at high standards and maybe even win but even if the didn’t win, at least their people are not starving back home.

For the moment, African sporting teams should focus in participating in African tournaments and local club tournaments until they are at a standard to compete with the rest of the world.

With the risk of isolating Africa from the rest of the world, I would say, world tournaments should only be attended by African countries, which are more developed,

and can afford it — like South Africa, Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco etc. For the third world African countries, especially the poorest ones should not even consider playing in any of the world tournaments until they have a more established economy and sporting facilities and mentor programs are up to date with the rest of the world.

How do you go and spend the little money you have at a posh restaurant when you have no food at home? African sporting teams should be patient and never pressured to compete with the rest of the world until they are ready.

Most African countries still have cheap manufacturing costs and labor compared to Western Countries and they should take advantage of that by building more industries in Africa. The more industries there are in Africa, the richer Africans will become.

If any African country wishes to borrow money, it shouldn’t be for a non-profit making venture but for a profit making facility or business. Through this and a proper payment plan taken from profits from that industry, they can be able to pay back the loan without affecting the rest of the economy. Loans that cannot be paid back should not be taken no matter how sweet they seem. And any African President, who takes up a loan without a proper payment system and expects the next regime to deal with it, should be prosecuted and made accountable for his poor planning and derailing the growth of the country. Also the new government that comes in power should stick to the payment plan of the loan that was made by the previous government. The governments might change but life goes on and newly elected African Presidents should not think that the problems of the previous government are not their problem. And also outgoing presidents should not think that the current problems are not theirs because they are about to leave office. A President should have enough economic advisors, business advisors and accountants to help him put up a proper payment plan and evaluate whether the loan about to be taken can pay itself back through the industry to be established and also time limit for payment of the loan should be considered as well as other unforeseeable factors and interest rate and future product sales and services.

A proper loan analysis should be taken. African governments should never rush in taking up loans without thoroughly undertaking a loan analysis and establishing a viable payment plan. Loans taken on by African governments from overseas should also have non-transfer disclosures, to protect themselves from Vulture funds.

Through this they can easily payback the loan once the facility or business opens.

And the facility or business opened will be able to create more jobs for people and improve the country’s economy and even after the loan is paid back, the facility or business will still be making money for the country.

African countries should find one constitution that works for their people and should stick with it and protect it at all costs and never change the constitution from one regime to another. Small amendments might be made but the principal should remain the same. It should be a constitution that puts in mind future generations and will work also for future generations and future generations should protect it at all costs.

Africa’s environment, resources, culture and people should be protected at all costs.

Future generations shouldn’t need to be born in misery, deserts, breathe bad air, eat bad food, and have pathetic living standards and poor health conditions. The continent should be protected so that future generations can enjoy it too.

African countries should also have strong military alliances with each other and be prepared to defend each other from outside influence like America.

Africa needs a strong army that can keep away foreign forces and influences from any African country. It needs a strong army to defend the constitution of African countries and the liberties of African people.

African countries must never have to rely on Western aid. Africa is capable of being self-sufficient if the African countries work hand in hand. Anything that cannot be found in Africa, Africa doesn’t need. Africa is based on an abundance of natural resources. It just needs to start exploiting them. The only thing Africa needs to import is technology. And with a lot of African students studying abroad, Africa just needs to create employment by building more industries and thus encouraging overseas African students to come back and work in Africa.

Better working conditions should also be formulated, as well as better health and low tax system.

Africans should be encouraged to invest in Africa and should be given government support and assistance.

If African countries have a good trading system with each other, they will be able to negotiate better trade deals with Western countries. Africa should also extend its trade to south American and Asian markets. Most of these other continents are in badly need for Africa’s resources, so if African countries can produce them in large quantities, they can be able to export to a great deal of overseas countries.

Africa should also manufacture quality goods, offer better services and take pride in quality. This will ensure that they are able to compete with any other country out there.

Africans should also take pride in their local products. ‘If you love yourself, other people will love you too’.

2. Privatization

Privatization is a good system but not yet for Africa. Most Africans don’t have enough money to buy the local companies and thus when privatized, they are owned by overseas companies who don’t care about Africa or its people. Plus with the companies in foreign hands, especially the ones that African countries don’t have a military alliance with. The country is at risk of collapse should the foreign owners pull out of the country.

Foreign investors seek stability so African countries should also seek stability from foreign investors and make sure that they won’t just randomly pull out when there’s a small problem or whenever they wish. But most of all, at the moment, Privatization should not be encouraged in Africa or even applied. They government should still own most of the companies and formulate a payment system in which local people can buy that business from the government.

A Board of Directors can have a percentage of their salaries held back each year and after a certain period; lets say ten years or more. Ownership of the company is given to the Board of Directors.

But only after the meet the required payment and conditions.

The country also needs to establish a good loaning system, so that individuals can apply for loans and be able to be given loans to start a business.

People should be encouraged to put money in the bank. This enables the banks to have more money to lend. Banks should not be encouraged to charge large fees for people to open up accounts. This hinders people from putting money in the bank where the money is much more effective.

The government should own more commercial banks but let them run independently without government influence. Some of these commercial banks can then later be sold to the local people. Banks should also be opened in small towns and rural areas. Rural farmers must be encouraged to put their money in the bank.

Remember that inflation is caused by too much money circulating in a country. If people put money in the bank, there is less money circulating in a country and thus the currency is stronger. ATM facilities should be open around the country and be easily accessible even in small towns and eftpos should be used and encouraged.

Foreign banks don’t care about the local African economy, the only care about profit, so that is why the government and the local African people should own a lot of the commercial banks so that they can provide these services and if there any foreign banks the would be forced to provide these services too. A foreign bank won’t open up a bank in a small town unless a government owned bank does so first. The government should spear head the development of its country and not wait for foreigners to do it. With money in the banks, a lot more loans can be given out to the local people. These loans will lead to more industries been built, that’s more employment and more money in the bank. And the economy of the country keeps growing. Africans should be taught to invest in industries that will promote the growth of the country, and to buy shares in companies so that the companies are locally owned or have a local stake.

The government should also have a good taxing system so that wealth is equally distributed in the country and the rich don’t get very rich while the poor get very poor.

The government should have a good tax collecting system and should have a stronger management of the country by providing a system that ensures that money is being shared in the country, the country is growing and people are better fed and have better health facilities.

The governments first and foremost role should be to take care of the people and also defend the country from outside influence. African politicians should not go into politics to be rich but rather to help the country grow and improve the living standards of the local people. Any country that has people has wealth. African people are untapped wealth and so it is the responsibility of the African governments to make use of the human resources that the have by educating them, supporting them, providing them a safe working environment and not neglecting them when they retire.

Since the government has most of the money, it should develop industries and amenities like state of the art sporting facilities, world class shopping centers, Cinemas, hotels, backpackers and lots of manufacturing plants. It should not wait for foreign investors to come and do this. ‘Don’t expect anyone but yourself, to develop your country’. The government can later sell these facilities to the local people.

Once there are many industries, more people will have money. From one big industry a lot of supporting industries can rise. And if you build another big one, you double the supporting industries and if you build another one, the country grows bigger and bigger. That is why the African governments should stop the habit of buying finished goods from Western countries, just making the Western countries richer and richer while African countries don’t grow cause the have no big industries.

It would even be better for a few or all African countries to put their money together and build an Industry that can compete with the West, Africa cannot prosper on it’s own, there is just not enough capital, but together or in groups. African countries can build industries far much bigger than the ones in the Western Countries. And this will increase the African economy tremendously and improve the living conditions of most Africa and give overseas people a better prospective of Africa. Africans should aim build big. They should learn to work with one another and not against each other.

Countries like South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia can put their money together and have a combined force greater than individual European nations and they can be able to build far much bigger and more sophisticated industries than even Japan, Sweden or South Korea.

Even poorer nations like Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, can put their resources together and build far much bigger industries.

And the fact that these countries are close together makes it easier for them to work together.

Good transport system needs to be developed through Africa to make it easier for African countries to work together. African countries should put money together and build a train line across Africa from Egypt to Cairo and from East coast to West Coast. Together, African countries can achieve endless possibilities.

African countries with ports should put their money together to build better ports and better ships. African Airline companies should also join together to provide better service and be able to compete with the rest of the world.

Individual African countries should also provide good transport between rural areas and cities and rural electrification should be a must. No one should be left in the dark.

High School leavers who can’t find any employment and those not going to college should be enrolled in the army, public service or farming establishments so that they are not left roaming the streets with no money in their pockets. Industries should offer apprenticeships and also be able to recruit school leavers.

Large farming establishments should be developed as this requires a lot of labor and it would provide work for a lot of school leavers. And it will also help the country be efficient in food production and excess crops can be exported. Instead of using heavy machinery on the farms, Human labor should be used until the country has enough industries and very low unemployment rates.

Since most African countries are still undeveloped, there is a potential for a lot of work. A lot of work needs to be done to modernize Africa, so a lot of workers will be needed and so with the establishment of big industries, there shouldn’t be any job shortages. There are a lot of things that need to be built or developed in Africa and these need labor. So there is no reason why there should be high unemployment rates in Africa. The Western World is the one which should have very high unemployment because its been overbuilt. There’s nothing more to build, so soon there won’t be any work there unless they decide to demolish cities and build new ones.

Because Africa is way behind in development it is lucky. While the West is over developed, still trying to develop more, because life must go on. There is less room, bad air due to pollution, and bad food due to the advancement of food production, which has led to an increase in profit but lower food quality. Because of the overpopulation in cities, living standards are expensive because people have to share the little amenities and space. Apartments are compressed together, the rooms are small but the price is high due to demand. People are separated from their families because they have to look for work due to expensive living standards and theories which are aimed at increasing the governments tax revenue while seeming as if it is aimed to help people.

But still the standard of living of most Western Countries give the people more time to enjoy life and not struggle to make a living. They have more time to have hobbies, travel around the world and explore different lifestyles. While because of unemployment in Africa and poor standard of living, most Africans spend their time trying to make a living than actually enjoying life. Most Africans don’t achieve their full potential because they are trying to make ends meet. And most Africans miss out on the wonderful sceneries of other countries and of different people’s cultures around the world, because they can’t afford to travel and they miss out on having a hobby because they can’t afford to have a hobby.

This is why Africans should work hard to develop their continent, so that they can be able to enjoy the fruits of life.

If a government has no money to build a manufacturing plant or fee paying amenities, it can borrow from other African countries or overseas countries but with a formulated payment plan and that manufacturing plant or fee paying amenity, should be able to make enough money to pay back the loan at the required period.

If not it can have a foreign investor build it and later buy it from them or let the local people buy it.

Africans should be employed. They should own large businesses and be able to run them successfully and they should be a lot of African billionaires out there.

The Forbes list of the world’s richest people should contain a list of Africans.

Africans should also put money and their brains together to establish large companies that can meet international standards and be able to surpass Western companies.

The government should have better industry regulations, promoting the advancement of Africans and local ownership as well as competition.

Monopoly should not be encouraged and discouraged at all costs. Competition leads to better skill, better products and cheaper products.

Diversification should also be encouraged. No country should rely on one particular industry. This leads to the collapse of the country’s economy when that product or service is no longer needed.

Good governance should also be encouraged. People should be put first before self.

The government should always be an employee of the people. With the sole purpose of improving the lifestyles of the local people and protecting them from injustice, and protecting the constitution, and also protecting the country from foreign invasion or bad influence.

Corruption should not be encouraged and regulations should be put in place to monitor it and get rid of it. Corruption hinders the countries progress.

No government official should have access to public funds and use it as he wishes.

No government official should take up a loan from a national company or bank without paying it back or having made forming arrangements according to the companies policy of paying it back.

No special treatment should be given to government officials, including Ministers or the President or anyone in regards to paying back a loan. This ruins the local company or bank. Proper company or bank procedures should be followed and adhered to just like any ordinary person would be subjected too. In fact government officials as leaders of a country should set a good example by paying back the loan on time.

National companies and banks should have no government influence. They should run independently by qualified independent people. Even though they are government owned, the businesses should never be government run.

A good auditing system should be put in place. Not even the president should influence the running of the company and nor should the president and anyone else, freely access company funds. The companies’ books should be open to the public.

National companies should not be forced to make donations to political parties for their election campaigns. Rather the businesses should do so freely if they wish too in accordance to the company’s policy and with approval from the Board of Directors.

The president should never have the power to appoint a company CEO or Board Director for a National company. They should be appointed on merit and qualification from the Council of Ministers (which consists of five Ministers), which oversees but not interfere, the running of the National Companies. The President can though appoint two Board members. And the other four appointed by Parliament.

The President or Council of Ministers should never have the right to fire a National Company CEO or Board Director without Parliament approval.

The companies’ books should be open to the public.

At the same time, foreign investment should be encouraged but not relied on. Some companies can be privatized by foreigners but not all. Foreign investors should be encouraged to start their own new business and not just privatize existing businesses, especially if they are doing well.

Foreign investors should not mistreat local workers. They should adhere to the local working conditions and in fact provide better but not less.

The government should ensure that a reasonable amount of profit made by foreign investors remains in the country and is used for redevelopment.

The government should also provide stable business and social environment.

3. Civil wars

No African government should engage in civil war. It hinders the country’s development. Any problems should be settled through the ballot boxes or courts.

The rule of law should be respected and the people’s wishes granted. The African Union should have the mandate to intervene in any civil war in Africa and stamp out even by force, the guilty culprit. No one man or group should have the power to ruin a country. African countries should stick with one another to avoid outside bad influence that leads to civil wars. Civil wars should be condemned by all African countries. African people should not take part or encourage civil wars.

A Civil war in one country affects the neighboring countries. It leads to an inflow of refugees and lawlessness. Civil wars also affect the whole of Africa as African image is tarnished and this leads to reduction in the flow of tourists and investors.

Thus Civil war is not just the problem of that country at war but it’s the problem of all African countries and African countries should do whatever it takes to eradicate it by all means including force if necessary. This will be an example of any future African country that will think of engaging in civil war. They will know that African countries won’t just sit back and watch their neighbor and friend being ruined.

The rest of the world might not care but African countries should care. If African countries look after one another, the will be less problems in Africa and they won’t need to rely on foreign aid or investments.

4. Coups

Coups have damaged the progress of many African countries. This is also because there are many greedy army generals who think they can just do whatever they want. Some have done it on their own, while others have been supported by the USA.

African countries should not tolerate coups and should condemn any dictatorship government and even interfere by getting rid of the dictator.

The African Union should have the mandate to use force if necessary to get rid of the dictatorship government and lead the affected country back to democracy.

Presidents should only be elected. No one man should impose himself on the people and declare himself president without the people’s votes.

No one army leader should think that he could get away with this.

No support should be given to a dictatorship government by any African government and measures should be put in place to get rid of it as soon as possible

Overseas countries should not be allowed to support the dictatorship government.

Trade blockades should be put in place and pressure should be put on the dictatorship government to return to democracy. If all else fails, force should be used.

Dictatorship should never be tolerated and left to prevail.

Dictatorship ruins the country’s stability, hinders development and paints a bad picture about Africa.

African countries should form counter terrorism (which includes dictatorship) force.

The Counter terrorism force should not be part of the army but a separate force under home security. It should be well quipped and trained like army elite special forces and it should be able to counter any dictatorship plot. It’s job should be to protect the government from being overthrown by dictators. Since the police service can’t stop a coup taking place due to lack of equipment and necessary training. The Counter Terrorism Force should be able to do it. Their role would be to come up with better methods to protect the country from dictatorship and any terrorist activity. And during an invasion, it should be the countries last line of defense.

This will boost investor confidence in an African country that is damaged by regular coups and it will also help other African countries not worry about coups or rogue generals.

And also no one General should be in charge of all the armed forces departments.

The Airforce general should not answer to the navy general or ground troops general.

And for countries with no Navy force, they should have two ground forces controlled by separate generals who don’t out rank each other. Having one ground force controlled by one man other than the president is what gives these rogue generals the power to overthrow the government. A general or any army leader shouldn’t have that power or opportunity to takeover the government.

All these generals should only be out ranked by the president and answer only to the president.

The new African brand should be protected at all costs. Africa should no longer be known as a poor and lawless continent but rather as a beautiful, peaceful and rich continent with a lot to offer to the rest of the world. No African country should be allowed to tarnish the whole image of Africa and no foreign power should hinder Africa’s progress.

5. Bad Publicity

Africa has a lot of bad publicity. Some of which is true, some not even closely true. But people buy what the media is selling. The best way to counter this is for Africa to do its own publicity. Most bad publicity about Africa comes from media outlets that are not owned by Africa and they make money through tarnishing Africa’s image.

African countries should work together and start up big news networks that can compete with Western news networks. These news networks should then be used to promote Africa and focus on the good things about Africa, especially the beautiful African scenery, wildlife, the amazing tribes of Africa and the cultures and ceremonies.

There is a lot of beautiful stuff that comes from Africa but never reaches the rest of the world. This is because the rest of the world knows Africa from the Western news networks point of view, which focuses on the bad things about Africa.

Every continent, every country has its good and bad, so there is no reason that the only news that reaches the rest of the world about Africa is bad news.

African countries should put a stop to this.

They should put their resources together and develop large news networks to compete with CNN, BBC, etc. People from different parts of the world should be able to access this African news networks and learn about Africa from Africans.

The only people, who should be in charge of promoting Africa, should be Africans themselves.

Foreign misrepresentation of Africa should be countered by good representation.

African countries should also produce clothing with Africa and African slogans printed on them like; I love Africa, I come from Africa, Africa the most beautiful continent on Earth, or I have seen a lion in Africa.

These pieces of clothing should replace the USA ones that we are bombarded with. And they will also lead to Africans being more proud of thir continent and themselves.

Africans should be proud to wear the pieces of clothing with African slogans printed on them and the rest of the world will also want a taste of Africa. ‘If you love yourself, other people will love you too’.

African countries should also produce movies based on Africa and depicting the African way of life. These movies should be interesting and appealing to the rest of the world.

African countries should also put their resources together and build large music production and distribution companies which are capable of competing with the worlds best. African countries can then be able to promote Africa through music.

African countries should also be able to host festivals and concerts that can be aired around the world.

African countries need to put their resources together in order to compete with the world’s best. By working together and having the same goal, African countries will soon be successful and envied by the rest of the world.

Africa is still under exploited, so it has a lot to offer to the rest of the world. We have seen what the rest of the world can offer, so it’s time now for the rest of the world to see what Africa can offer.

Africa should just not rely on the West or any other overseas country to promote it.

Africa should not rely on anyone to develop it.

All promotions and development of Africa should be spearheaded by Africans.

Africans should also work together as one, regardless of color, race, tribe or country.

Only by working together and not against each other, can Africa develop to its true beautiful and rich self.

Africa is a beautiful continent and it should not be poor. Africa is filled with lovely people and they should not be lawlessness and corruption.

Africa needs to exploit its resources and manpower. There are lots of intelligent and clever Africans out there. It’s time the stopped hiding and helped in the beautification and enrichment of Africa and its people.

No one but Africans can develop Africa.
