 | Giulietta Spudich | |

Giulietta Spudich is a half-italian, half-american girl (of 33) living in Ely, England. She has a black cat named Smokey and loves to write stories when it's cold or dark outside (i.e. most of the winter, which is most of the... year). She apologises now to Smokey for the mean cat in Shonim that really bears no resemblance...
Giulietta has been writing all her life, since she was 6. She moved to England in 2002 to work in biochemical research, and it was here that she started to write with more direction. Motivated by the green spaces and endless fields of Cambridgshire (also by the dark winter) she dreamed of a fairy and a human friendship, and wrote it down. The fairy made the winter nights go quicker, with his endless and hilarious antics, and she wrote the stories not just for herself, but for friends around the world who needed a laugh. She would email chapters when they were finished, gauge how good they were by how much her friends' ribs hurt, and they grew into three novels. By then the fairy Shonim was everywhere, and now lives both in and out of the three e-books on this website ( Giulietta occassionally sees him running through the grass alongside the river in Ely, England, and will catch him soon to ask him to be in the fourth book).
Before this English existance, Giulietta lived in the USA. She grew up in Eastchester, New York, attended grade school at Greenvale and graduated from Eastchester High School in 1991. She then moved to Houston, TX, attended Rice University and then obtained her PhD in molecular and cell biology at University of California, Berkeley.
Having tried living on all the coasts of America, she decided to move to Great Britain, as the coastline is endless.
She is grateful to Globusz for taking Shonim out of the dusty drawer in her desk (where he was developing a cough and scaring the cat) and letting him dance around e-space for awhile.
In daily life she is a scientist, and moved out to England to research 'biochemical mechanisms of a motor protein called Myosin VI' (nerd speak... and no animals were involved). ( I.e. the move was not only for the fresh air and green spaces, and excellent tea and proximity to Italy (all good things)). She worked with John Kendrick-Jones and thanks him for the wonderful working environment and excellent scones upstairs (though he didn't make those). Before her life in England, she lived in the US and obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at University of California, Berkeley. ( Or Bezerkley, as some say).
Currently she works in educational development for a genome browser called Ensembl. She loves to travel and write, take photographs and stay in touch with good friends, either emailing them incessantly or having the occassional cappuccino (or hot chocolate). She also likes to dance, despite some lack of coordination, nevertheless she is part of a group called the Geoff Bailey Dancers in Cambridge.
