Cristache Gheorghiu
There are a lot of years since I was born in Roman, a little town in Romania. It happened in 1937, to be more exactly. During my childhood, sports and reading books used to be my likings, but the adults explained me that sport is not something to do for a serious person and reading books is not just a profession. Maybe to write some, but only when and if you will have something to say toward the others! Thats why I followed the university, getting a master degree in engineering from the "Gh. Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, specialized later in Computing Science.
Also, in time, painting has become the most important hobby of mine. As I like to do things seriously, I took lessons from professionals, so that one can say now that it is my second profession. I had many exhibitions, and some of my paintings decorate not only private houses, but also some offices from Brasov - where I live now - such as the Municipal Library, the Chamber of Commerce, a bank, some hotels, etc. Painting opened to me another door, helping me to see the world in a different light. It is difficult to show how in a few lines, but I will explain it in a book.
Speaking about books, now, after a life full of interesting events, crossing three different political systems, I think to have something to say, namely to write books.
The first one was after my second trip in the U.S.A. (Painting helped me to travel) This book is not about descriptions of sites, or happenings. It is a book of travel notes, impressions about American lifestyle compared with the Romanian lifestyle, namely what crossed my mind during the travel. The book is to be found in bookstores in Romania.
As my foreign friends have encouraged me to write a book in English, I followed their advice. This was a challenge, as English is not my mother tongue. This book has fewer travel impressions and more small essays, the trip being only a pretext.
In the third book I made a combination between essay and autobiography. I did it because it was an easier way to say general ideas by starting from some events happened during my life, in other words, how I came to those conclusions. It is in Romanian language.
Now, I am about to finish another book, one of pure essays, centered on the evolution of the society in Occident and Eastern Europe, the difference between them with explanations not only about politics, but also about religion, history and tradition. I write it directly in English.

America after America by Cristache Gheorghiu
America after America is a book of travel notes, impressions about American way of
life in comparison with European lifestyle.
They are thoughts that crossed the author's mind during his second travel in the United States.
It is not a description of sites or happenings; there are no portrayals of characters, or exciting
adventures.
Thoughts fly far away while the plane, bus, or train carries us over miles and miles.
Those long American roads through desert are excellent for putting down our thoughts.
Accordingly this is more a book of travel thoughts than one of travel adventures.
The book is to be found in Romanian bookstores.
