Dulce Rodrigues was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Though Portuguese in her heart and by nationality, she nevertheless adopted Europe as her « home », as a result of a professional career that took her to other cities and countries. She graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures in her home country and followed later a Science Foundation Course with the Open University in the United Kingdom. She has language diplomas by the Goethe-Institute and the British Council and speaks six living languages. She was awarded two scholarships: one by the Goethe-Institute in Munich and one by NATO.
Travelling is one of Dulces hobbies and when she is not travelling to far away places, she spends her life in Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg or Switzerland. History is another of her passions, particularly the rich History of her home country, and she has made it the favorite theme of her conferences and articles published in magazines and blogs.
For health reasons, Dulce had to cease her professional activity earlier than expected and she has since devoted most of her spare time to writing, especially for children. Due to her knowledge of foreign languages, her books have been published in France, Belgium, Portugal, and the USA.
Dulce was awarded four literary prizes in contests in France at European level with manuscripts of childrens stories. She is regularly invited to literary meetings and other similar events, as well as to activities with children, in different countries like France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. One of her kids plays was performed in Romania and Luxembourg.
Dulce loves every form of artistic expression as far as it transmits Beauty. Nature offers her delightful moments of meditation through its splendor and diversity.
Dulce is divorced and has two grownup sons who are the most valuable treasure live could ever have given to her.

Acts one and two of the play are set in Father Christmas house in Sweden and take place in that holiday season. Regrettably, Father Christmas has come down with the flu. How will he deliver the presents? His assistant Elf dreams of playing Father Christmas for one night but Mrs. Christmas and her husband dont think its a good idea. Instead they place an ad for a substitute and a young man who had once replaced the Finnish Father Christmas shows up. Angry because the Christmases did not think he was responsible enough to deliver the presents, Elf plays a prank on the substitute.
Act three may or may not be part of this play; it tells the story of Saint Nicholas, this mythical white-bearded gift-giving figure who entered our imagination in the form of Father Christmas or Santa. Act three can also be performed as an independent one-act play specifically for younger children.
The work also features the Christmas carol We wish you a Merry Christmas sung at the end of the play; a recipe for Mother Christmas Chocolate Cake and a few easy drawings for Christmas decorations. Production notes and a script are also included by the author as a source for stage performance, or for script reading in a classroom.
Review: If there is a character with whom we never get bored, that character is no doubt Father Christmas. With its twist on characters from the holiday season and its foreign setting, Father Christmas has the Flu may appeal to a wide audience. Both adults and children may be entertained by this charming play.
