Ahmed Baraka has OCP certificates on Oracle 10g and 9i database administration and Oracle 6i and 9i Internet Application Developer. He has been working in IT field for 9 years three years as an Oracle DBA, 4 years as an Oracle Upgrade (Developer) and two years as an instructor on Oracle courses. Ahmed Baraka worked in many places in the Middle East. He traveled to many countries: Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi, Libya, Palestine, Jordan, Malaysia, Australia and UAE.
He is proficient in both training and applying Oracle technologies on real systems. This enables him to be up to date with what trainees require so far to start their career in the Oracle field. Also, he was most of the time involved with writing technical books such as training data.
Throughout his stay in many countries in the world, he has invested in a key asset: education. Knowledge should be available to all well off or underprivileged. For this reason, he is sharing this book. He hopes it may help those who want to upgrade their Oracle knowledge, not having to think about expenses for courses or for books.
Currently, Ahmed works in Dubai as an Oracle consultant. He lives with his kind wife, and his two cute little daughters. He is grateful to his wife who set a tranquil atmosphere for him. It has helped him to focus, while he was writing his work, "Oracle 10g New Features". Without her support, his work would not be at this level.

Oracle Database 10g is the first database designed for enterprise grid computing, the most flexible and cost-effective way to manage enterprise information.
It cuts costs of management while providing the highest possible quality of service. In addition to numerous quality and performance enhancements, Oracle Database 10 g significantly reduces the costs of managing the IT environment, with a simplified install, greatly reduced configuration and management requirements, automatic performance diagnosis and SQL tuning.
These and other automated management capabilities help improve DBA and developer productivity and efficiency.
Ahmed Baraka's book explains the new features added to Oracle Database 10g releases 1 and 2. It concentrates on examples and code and covers most aspects of the DBA tasks in Oracle 10g.
This book would be useful to DBAs who is interested in upgrading their knowledge to Oralce 10g. It could also be used to prepare for the "Oracle 10g New Features" exam.

Following are the changes you will face when installing Oracle Database 11g:
Choosing Oracle Base location
Oracle Base is the top-level directory for installing Oracle software. Oracle Universal Installer now allows you to specify and edit Oracle base location. Oracle recommends you to specify the same Oracle base for multiple Oracle homes.
Datafile and Flash Recovery Area Locations
By default, Datafiles and flash recovery area are located one level below the Oracle base location. In Oracle 10g, it is used to be saved under Oracle home directory.
Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR)
ADR is a single directory location for all error and trace data in the database. It replaces the traditional diagnostic directories such as bdump, cdump, and udump. ADR location is controlled by the new initialization parameter DIAGNOSTIC_DEST. Oracle recommends you choose the same ADR base for all Oracle products.
