 Eric Chambers was born in Mirfield in the West Riding of Yorkshire, where he still lives. He started his working career as a dyer, then left before he was made redundant and joined British Rail as a clerk in 1979. After working at Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Wakefield he transferred to support staff with British Transport Police in 1990. He took early retirement in 2007 to become a full-time carer for his wife who suffers from a disabling illness. He has many and varied interests, with no particular fixation, saying there’s too much out there to concentrate totally on one thing.
Stories, Long, Short and Tall
This is a collection of stories written over several years for a variety of reasons. They fall in to science fiction, in the form of There Is Life, its sequel visitation, Band Of Angels and Testament. The others are fantasy, apart from Ragnarok, which has a foot in both camps, and The Lodger, which is a ghost story written as an experiment. Some are derivative, some are wholly original. The most obviously derivative is Band Of Angels, although it was written before the movie When Darkness Falls came out. I hope you get as much enjoyment from reading them as I got from writing them, which in the end is the only reason they happened.

As the title suggests, only faith can offer protection against the harsh conditions in a place torn by civil war, food shortages, and scarcity of medical supplies - with no medicine, no beds for the sick, no medical doctor, no running water, no electricity, no classrooms, no sewerage, no factories, not even workshops — only a continuous cycle of hardships and deaths.
Dotun paints a sordid picture of the harsh ground realities of corruption, nepotism, bribery and administrative incompetence. At the same time he brings to life a true picture of old Nigerian customs practiced in the villages as well as life in the large metropolis, Lagos.

Regrettably, Father Christmas has come down with the flu. How will he deliver the presents? His assistant Elf dreams of playing Father Christmas for one night but Mrs. Christmas and her husband don’t think it’s a good idea. Instead they place an ad for a substitute and a young man who had once replaced the Finnish Father Christmas shows up. Angry because the Christmases did not think he was responsible enough to deliver the presents, Elf plays a prank on the substitute by not putting all of the presents on the sleigh. Yet Father Christmas has no idea that this has happened until his replacement arrives to tell him that he is short a number of presents. After confronting him, Elf confesses that he ate all of the chocolates out of spite.
